Supporting Children with Food Allergies: Words of endorsement from PM Sir Keir Starmer
LIVE The UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, welcomed the vital work being carried out by The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation.
In a significant and encouraging moment for the allergy community, Sir Keir recognised that allergy was an issue that needed a Government response. It was particularly heartening to hear the Prime Minister express concern over the sharp increase in hospital admissions for anaphylaxis over the past two decades.
At Prime Minister’s Questions, Becky Gittens MP welcomed the launch of Allergy School, our new, free educational programme designed to support children with food allergies and provide essential resources to schools, families and caregivers. The launch of Allergy School marks a crucial step forward in raising awareness, providing education, and fostering a safer environment for children with food allergies.

Allergies are a growing public health concern that demands urgent attention, and the Prime Minister's recognition of this issue is a significant milestone. Anaphylaxis, a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction, has become increasingly prevalent, placing immense strain on families and healthcare services alike. The need for greater awareness, improved education, and enhanced support has never been clearer.
Prime Minister's Questions (PMQs) is a weekly session in the UK Parliament where Members of Parliament (MPs) can ask the Prime Minister questions. It usually takes place every Wednesday at 12:00 PM when the House of Commons is in session and offers MPs a chance to raise issues directly with the head of the government.
A huge thank you goes to Becky Gittins, MP for Clwyd East, whose dedication and advocacy have been instrumental in bringing this issue to the forefront of political discussion. Becky Gittins not only placed allergies on the Prime Minister's agenda but also secured a commitment for further ministerial meetings on the Government’s response to allergy care. With Becky Gittens MP’s support, we will once again advocate the pressing need for an Allergy Tsar - a dedicated, national lead to oversee and improve allergy services across the UK.
The appointment of an Allergy Tsar could be transformative, ensuring that people living with allergies receive the support and protection they need. Such a role would help coordinate efforts across government and ultimately improve the quality of life for millions of allergic children, adults and their families.
We are immensely grateful for the support from political leaders and advocates who recognise the importance of addressing food allergies within the Government. Their backing provides hope and momentum for continued progress in allergy awareness, education, and care.
